Haemodialysis is a recurring, costly procedure, and for a family living on a low income it is often simply out of reach. End-stage renal disease falls hardest on the underprivileged, who are also more likely to have untreated diabetes and hypertension, its main causes. Swasthya exists to make sure that nobody in Davangere is denied life-sustaining treatment because they cannot pay.
The Trust began providing free haemodialysis in 2021 with four machines. As the need became clear, four more were added in 2022, another four in 2023, and four more again in 2024. Today a dedicated team runs 16 units.
The centre completes more than 650 dialysis cycles every month, and by 2026 had delivered over 30,000 free cycles in total.
